Maggie saw the need for support for service based business owners this past year after seeing most readily available funding focus on product based business models during the pandemic. In true Maggie fashion, she chose to take the problem into her own hands by partnering with our team to create accessible, simple and (in her words), no bs funding.
Who is Maggie Patterson?
Maggie is the editorial director and founder of Scoop Studios. With 20 years of experience in digital marketing and communications working with some of the world’s biggest brands to scrappy startups, she brings her clients a unique blend of content marketing, PR, and digital marketing know-how. A master level content marketer (as awarded by Copyblogger), her work has been published in a wide range of publications, including Fast Company, Virgin.com, Entrepreneur, and more.
The Small Business Boss Fund is a $5,000 (CAD) fund available to women identifying entrepreneurs who own businesses that have a B2B (businesses that serve other businesses) service based businesses.
This $5,000 fund can be allocated to any area of your business that you see fit (no payback, no equity, no strings attached)
Examples of Service based B2B business include:
- Graphic design
- Coaching
- Consulting
- Writing
- Marketing
- Accounting and financial services

In an interview with Founders Fund's Co-Owner & Digital Event Host, Vivian Kaye, Maggie was asked why she thought it was important to provide support for this kind of community. Maggie responded:
Traditional funding has been geared towards digital or mainstream entrepreneurs, and much of the funding created after COVID did not address the needs of online service based businesses or physical service based businesses that needed help getting their business digitized given the COVID-19 restrictions. For example, accounting firms that needed to transition to online services during the pandemic.
What makes this funding BS Free, Maggie?
- The application process is very seamless and applicants only need to answer 4 BS free questions
- The selection process is also equitable and barrier free because all participant in the selection committee are required to go through mandatory conscious bias training. This training ensures that all funding applicants are screened without the threat of biases
- There is NO payback, equity or strings attached associated with the funding
