Founders Fund Canada Recipient Laurie Jittoo

Who is Laurie Jittoo?

Laurie is 41 years old and recently married, with a lovely 10-year-old stepdaughter who is the most encouraging person other than my mother, that Laurie has ever met. Laurie lived in Germany for almost 5 years returning to Canada at the end of 2019. Laurie has been an IT professional for nearly 18 years but has always been passionate about food and helping people.

What is the ultimate vision that you have for Tacos and Waffles Inc?

The ultimate vision for my business is to address the UNDP Sustainable Goal 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production of food. Whether it's through promoting food waste reduction by consuming what's in your cupboard first or through equal access to food along the supply chain. In the end, I believe all Canadians can still be champions in their kitchens with the right inspiration and help reduce food waste which costs the average Canadian household $1,100 a year.

When asked “What are things about yourself or your business that you were told has to change in order to fit into the traditional mould of a successful entrepreneur? How have you begun to overcome them?” Laurie responded:

To date, most of the changes I've had to make to fit into the traditional mould of a successful entrepreneur has had to do with how I view myself as an aspiring entrepreneur. I really suffer from imposter syndrome and that can be a huge impediment to my progress. Having been recognized by FF as a finalist has significantly shifted my mindset and validated my thoughts, goals, and aspirations. I now surround myself with like-minded individuals who started off just like me...with just an idea.

Why did you decide to join the Founders Fund?

I joined FF because I was inspired and heartened to see such strong Canadian women banding together to share their wisdom, experience, and time, offering an opportunity for other aspiring female entrepreneurs a community to learn and grow. As they say, "Amazing things happen when women help other women." - Kasia Gospos.
